Door by Door

Your kids think Christmas is a wishlist. Twenty-six days to change that.

From 29 November to Christmas Eve, one small door opens each morning: a few lines of Scripture and one thing to do with them. A kindness for a neighbour, a candle at the table, a thank-you said out loud. Your phone reminds you. Tomorrow's door stays sealed until tomorrow.

Sunday 29 November · Door 1

The first candle

House of Jacob, come, and let’s walk in the light of the LORD.

Isaiah 2:5

Light one candle at the table tonight and turn off the other lights. Read the verse aloud, then walk slowly round the house together, the youngest carrying a torch, while everyone names one good thing they hope for this Advent.

Open doors read like this. Later doors are only numbers until their morning: they are kept on our server, not in your phone, so nobody can peek.

Three nudges a day, then quiet

A reminder in the morning when the door opens, one at lunch, one before bed. Once everyone has ticked today's door, the rest of the day's reminders stop.

  • Door 7 is openYour prayer is heard. A few minutes together today.
  • Door 7 is still openDoor 7 is still open for Mira.
  • Before the day endsDoor 7 is still open for Mira. A few minutes before bed.

Everyone ticks their own door

Add each person by first name. Your parent page shows who has done today's door. It never shows the doors that have not opened yet: you get the surprise too.

Questions

Does it work on Android?

Yes. Open your link in Chrome and tap Install. Reminders work the same way.

We have more than one child. Do we buy more than one?

No. One calendar covers the household: add up to six people by first name, and share one link with everyone who should tick. We never ask for a child's surname, birthday or photo.

Scripture or Spiritual?

Scripture opens every door with a passage of the Bible, quoted in full, and keeps the feasts of Advent. Spiritual tells the same story more gently: the same kind of small deeds, a Bible reference for anyone who wants it, and no doctrine. Both end on Christmas Eve with the Christmas story.

Which calendar is right for us?

Family if you will do the doors together. Kids if a grown-up will read each door aloud to children aged 4 to 10. Adults for yourself, or for two of you.

Can I start late?

Yes. Every door that has already opened is there to read, and you can tick it whenever you do it.

What happens after Christmas?

Your calendar stays open to read until 19 January. A Lent calendar is coming in February 2027; leave your email below and we will tell you once, when it is ready.

Which Bible translation?

Verses are quoted from the World English Bible (British Edition), a modern translation in the public domain.

Can I get my money back?

Yes, within 14 days, for any reason. Write to hello@slatehousestudio.in.

Lent, in February

Forty days, door by door. One email when it is ready, nothing else.
